BELLFLOWER

Adaptive reuse of a historic telephone communications building into a fine dining experience with flair.

Located in Ypsilanti, MI, the design of Bellflower Restaurant transformed the ground floor and adjacent abandoned alley of a building built and used by the Michigan Bell Telephone Company.

The space is split into 2 service areas: a take-away counter in the front with window seating for casual lunch service, and a dining room in the rear for an elevated dinner service.

The adjacent alley is covered and converted into a patio. The alley expands the dining area for use in every season.

Following the owners and chefs’ direction with their dynamic changing menu, the space is artfully curated to balance the spontaneity of the dishes. The essence of the space is captured artfully by Diana Paulson (Linea Photo).
